FAQs

  • What Are Bio-Gems?

Bio-Gems were first created by Bio Trimmings in 2012 after extensive research and development in identifying more ethical ways of creating fashion accessories. The result was a unique formula created that included discarded food extracts in combination with other bio ingredients resulting in a stunning looking new type of stone. We call these stones Bio-Gems.

  • What Makes Bio-Gems Ethical?

The ingredients consist of the discarded part of fruits and vegetables such as the peel of an orange or banana skin which creates a beautiful type of gem we call Bio-Gems since the materials used are eco-friendly and come from material that would otherwise be discarded in to a landfill.

  • Why Create Bio-Gems?

We felt a strong need for a change in the fashion industry and its typical wasteful culture. We wanted to offer an alternative product that could prove fashion design could look stylish and be ethical using eco-friendly materials which would otherwise be discarded. We just felt like waking up one morning and changing the world, as you do.

  • How Do I Care For My Jewellery?

    Caring for your Bio-Gem

All our Bio-Gems are handcrafted from plant fibres; an environmentally-friendly, durable alternative. Each piece beautifully incorporated with recycled sterling silver and/or thick layers of quality 18 carat gold vermeil using traditional jewellery techniques to form unique forms.

    Please follow the advice below:

    • Store your jewellery in the original packaging or a soft pouch away in a dry, clean place.

    • Make sure to take off your jewellery when you shower, exercise or go swimming. You should also avoid putting on moisturiser, perfume and lotion onto your jewellery by applying these to the skin without your pieces on.

    • Real silver tarnishes over time. Polish your silver jewellery occasionally with a soft, dry chamois cloth and silver polish to maintain it’s shine.

    • Gently clean your gold vermeil jewellery occasionally with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Polish solid gold pieces with gold polish occasionally.

    • Just like precious stones, avoid hard contact (i.e., knocking against objects or exercise) that can scratch or chip the Bio-Gem and/or metal.
